Google Shopping Feed Optimization: The 80/20 Fixes

Title structure, custom labels for margin tiers, GTINs, image quality, negative keywords. 27% ROAS lift in 60 days.
The 80/20 Feed Fixes
Most feed issues come from 5 fields. Fix these and you’ll outperform 80% of competitors.
1. Title Structure
Format: [Brand] [Product Type] [Key Attribute] [Color/Size] [Model/SKU]. Put highest-search-volume terms first. Max 150 chars.
2. Custom Labels for Margin Tiers
custom_label_0: Margin tier (High/Med/Low). custom_label_1: Seasonality (Core/Seasonal/Clearance). custom_label_2: Product priority (Hero/Support/Test). Use these in Performance Max asset groups and Shopping campaign priorities.
3. GTINs & MPNs
Required for brand eligibility and comparison shopping. Submit via supplemental feed if not in primary catalog.
4. Image Quality
White background, product fills 75-90% of frame, no watermarks/promotional text. Test lifestyle vs. studio images — lifestyle often wins for apparel/home.
5. Negative Keywords
Weekly search term review. Add irrelevant terms as campaign-level negatives. Brand negatives in generic campaigns; generic negatives in brand campaigns.
Performance Max Asset Groups
Segment by custom_label_0 (margin tier). High-margin groups get aggressive ROAS targets; low-margin get volume targets. Feed audience signals from customer lists.
